– It’s as if you’ve been stubborn all your life?
– Yes I have. And it was necessary! But at the same time I’ve also had a big desire to help, I’ve had it for as long as I can remember.
As I mentioned earlier, I had a sick father.
He suffered a lot because of terrible asthma attacks.
It became a part of me that I had to help him in every way.
When I was 6 years old, he died. That was the greatest loss I’ve ever suffered in my life. Now I had no father, and nobody who could protect me. His last words to me were: Little Alma. Who is going to take care of you now? Now I’m leaving.
And he had his arms around me, when he died.
I’ll never forget it!
Since then I’ve had an unfailing interest in asthma patients.
Later I learned firsthand that rheumatism is like having toothache without getting help.
You feel like you are alone on a raft in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean a dark night – with no hope of help.
That’s why it’s important that the rheumatic patients accept the help I’m giving.
Patients come here voluntarily.
I don’t beg them to do what they’re supposed to.
But I tell them: That’s how it has to be!
And that’s how it’s going to be!
To be continued …
This page is part of an ongoing translation of the Danish Book: Gigtens gåde er løst (the mystery of arthritis is solved) by Peter Laursen. The book was published in 1989 by the Danish publishing house Hellas, and tells the story of Alma Nissen, who for more than 30 years cured thousands of patients for amongst other things arthritis, psoriasis, asthma, pneumonia, herpes, gallstones and migraines with something as simple as potato soup and garlic, mild exercise, enough sleep and a lot of common sense. Through all those years Alma fought to make doctors put away their prescription pads and realize that drugs against arthritis are worse than the disease itself. The book – Gigtens gåde er løst – tells Alma Nissens story in her own words and gives us the solution, so we can help ourselves, when the medical establishment refuses to.
I think that this is one of those few books that really can have a huge impact on the life and health of the reader, and that’s why I translate it into English, so more people can get access to Alma Nissens wisdom.
