Saskia van Uylenburgh
Rembrandt married Saskia van Uylenburgh in 1633 and bought a house in the Sint Antoniesbreestraat, now Jodenbreestraat 4. In this house from the 17th century he lived and worked from 1639 till 1658. Today it’s known as the Rembrandt house and is a museum.
Rembrandt and Saskia had four children of whom only their son Titus survived childhood and died when he was 27.

Saskia died in 1642 only 30 years old and was buried in Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk. With her death tough times began for Rembrandt. He got help from his patron Jan Six, but in the end Rembrandt had to leave the house in the Jodenbreestraat and move to a more modest accommodation in Rozengracht 184.

Rembrandt died in October 1669 and was buried in a rented grave in Amsterdam’s Westerkerk.

Rembrandt house has been a museum since 1911. Many of his works can be found here, but also works by his teachers and his apprentices.
